“I joined Anthony Collins in August 2022 having taken part in the vacation scheme in summer 2021. I studied psychology as my undergraduate degree and then completed the LLB for graduates followed by the LPC, graduating in 2022. During a psychology placement at a women’s centre, I found that many of the psychological stressors women were experiencing stemmed from legal issues they were facing. This sparked an interest in law and I then shadowed a legal advisor at the women’s centre.

When researching law firms, I was looking for a firm that shared my values and where social purpose was at the forefront. I was drawn to AC because of the firm’s commitment to changing lives, communities and society. My first seat was in housing management in the property department, and my current seat is in commercial and property litigation, in the corporate litigation department. This has been a great mix of non-contentious and contentious work, allowing me to experience a wide range of areas of law. My confidence in my own abilities has grown significantly since starting at the firm and this is down to the support received as a trainee. Trainee managers are encouraging, accommodating and attentive. Trainees’ managers change every six months as they change departments, but trainees also have an appraiser who stays the same for the whole training contract. This is great because your appraiser watches you develop and is a source of advice on everything from choosing seats to fundraising ideas. Starting at the firm, trainees are paired up with a buddy to help with settling into the firm, but I still have regular coffee catch-ups with my buddy!

Trainees are encouraged to take part in and organise numerous fundraising activities for a variety of charities. I have been involved in many bake sales, organising a photo competition, taking part in the Great Birmingham Run and organising a trainee away day with a charity client.”
